Summer, Escape, and the Long-Awaited Trip

Summer is typically the season when most of us look for ways to escape the heat and those sky-high electricity bills. But thanks to the pandemic, we’ve been stuck at home, cooped up with no choice but to wait. The frustration of wanting to travel built up, and the moment restrictions were lifted, guess what? We searched for a place to go immediately!

And where better than Kanchanaburi, one of the first provinces to welcome travelers post-lockdown? Our destination of choice: River Kwai Jungle Rafts.

River Kwai Jungle Rafts – Relaxing Riverside Stay in Kanchanaburi

A Unique Riverside Retreat

Let’s get this out of the way first: there’s no electricity at River Kwai Jungle Rafts. Before you gasp and think, “Wait, am I going on vacation or enduring hardship?” hear me out. This is part of their concept—living simply to embrace the peaceful, untouched beauty of the Kwai Noi River.

Nestled in Tha Sao, Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi, this floating resort lets you reconnect with nature in the most tranquil setting imaginable.

Phutakian Pier

Getting There

We drove from Bangkok and pinned Phutakien Pier (or Resotel Pier) on Google Maps. The pier is the starting point for all boat transfers to the floating resort. Boats depart hourly from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with free transfers during these hours. For late arrivals, there’s a 1,000 THB private boat fee.

From Phutakien Pier, it’s a 20-minute boat ride to the resort. This part of the journey is pure bliss—a chance to soak in the stunning scenery along the riverbanks as the boat gently glides toward your destination.

The Arrival Experience

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the resort staff right at the boat dock. They ensured all safety protocols were followed meticulously—face masks, temperature checks, and all. It was reassuring to see how careful and organized everything was.

First Impressions

Once we stepped onto the raft, we were struck by how serene and refreshingly lush the surroundings were. The gentle river breeze, the sound of flowing water, and the view of the Kwai River made us forget all the stress from being stuck at home for months.

We sat on the edge of the raft, letting the river run gently past our feet, sipping on our welcome drink, and just taking in the moment. There’s something deeply calming about watching the river flow—it’s like a reset button for the soul.

Your Own Riverside Deck

Every room at River Kwai Jungle Rafts comes with its own private riverside deck. Whether you’re lounging with a good book or taking a refreshing plunge into the river, it all happens just outside your door.

Lighting the Night with Lanterns

As I mentioned earlier, there’s no electricity here. But don’t worry this isn’t a throwback to caveman days. The resort uses kerosene lanterns, adding a warm, romantic glow to the evenings. It’s not just functional—it’s a whole vibe.

Spacious Rooms with a Homely Feel

The bedrooms are surprisingly spacious, with configurations to suit one, two, or even three guests. Each room comes with cozy mosquito nets that add a touch of romance and a luxurious rustic charm.

Time to Dive In!

If the riverside chill isn’t enough to refresh you, grab a life jacket and jump straight into the river! Feel the water embrace you, carrying away your stress with the current.

💡 Tip: You can jump directly into the river from your private deck, but make sure to swim back before the current takes you beyond the raft area. And remember, always wear your life jacket for safety.

Lantern-Lit Evenings

As the sun sets behind the mountains, the lanterns come alive. The soft glow of these tiny lights scattered throughout the resort creates a classic, almost magical ambiance. It’s not just practical; it’s beautiful.

Though the lanterns may seem small individually, when lit together, they illuminate the resort beautifully. (Honestly, they shine brighter than my life plans at the momentbut that’s a story for another day!)

Dinner Under Lantern Light

Dinner at River Kwai Jungle Rafts starts at 6:00 PM and is included in the package. Served buffet-style in the central dining area of the raft, there’s also a cozy little spot called the Jungle Bar for those who’d like a drink or two. Imagine this: a romantic dinner under the soft glow of lanterns. It’s a step above the classic candlelight dinner magical and unique.

Instead of walking around to serve yourself, the staff brings delicious Thai dishes straight to your table. The food is simple yet packed with flavor, with perfectly cooked rice, tasty dishes, and sweet, refreshing fruit to finish. Best part? You can ask for unlimited refills until your heart (and stomach) is content.

Evenings by the River

The peaceful ambiance of the river under the night sky is mesmerizing. While the soft sound of the flowing water fills the background, you can sit back, gaze at the stars, and let the tranquility recharge your spirit. It’s the perfect way to wind down and prepare for the new day ahead.

Morning Bliss

As the morning light breaks, the lanterns are turned off, marking the start of a fresh, peaceful day. Breakfast is served at the same dining area, with plenty of hearty options to fuel your energy for the adventures ahead.
